
The bark has been left on this unsplit branch flute and Red Jasper has
been inlaid along the
right side
in some of the bark crevices,
contributing color and an impression of red lichen growing on the side
of the branch.
The bird is held to the nest with
American Bison lacing and red horn bone beads. The flute measures
15 1/2 inches in length
and the branch was gathered from a grove of English Walnut trees that
grow along San Marcos Creek in north San Diego County, California.
