The charred, broken end of the flute has been stabilized with thin CA glue and well sealed. End checks inlaid with crushed amber. As with all Dryad Flutes, this California Black Walnut (Juglans californica) branch flute was bored out intact, preserving the natural strength, beauty and unique characteristics of the fire burned branch. The burned end has been sanded, stabilized with CA glue and well sealed to prevent any of the charred wood from coming off, contributing an unusual but beautifully natural look to the branch. With a soulful and resonant voice, this flute has been accurately tuned to a 6 hole minor pentatonic mid F#m scale, with a few higher register notes, as heard in the sound sample. The bark has been sanded in artistic patterns to contrast, in texture and color, with the finely finished wood. The checks at the mouth end of the flute have been inlaid with crushed amber. To help prevent wet-out, the bird has been fitted with a cedar shoe, for its moisture absorption qualities, and a drain hole has been drilled into the air chamber covered with the Elk hide lacing that secures the bird to the nest.
