As
with all Dryad Flutes, this Northern California
Black Walnut
(Juglans hindsii)
branch
flute has been bored out intact, preserving the
natural strength,
beauty and characteristics of the branch, with no glue
seam to ever
fail.
It has been accurately and resonantly tuned
and voiced to a 6
holed minor
pentatonic mid Am scale, with a few higher octave
notes, as heard in
the sound sample. The
colorful bark has been left on, complete with numerous
bit of lichen,
well sealed and preserved to prevent separation from
the
wood. The wood itself has a beautiful spalting,
as seen at
both ends of the flute and on the bird. To
help prevent wet-out (the
build-up of
breath condensation that can clog the windway of the
flute) the bird
has been fitted with a cedar shoe, for its moisture
absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the
air
chamber. Elk leather lacing secures the bird to
the
nest.
