Point St. George, where this Big Leaf Maple branch was gathered. ![]() Big Leaf Maple Driftwood Branch Flute in Am Tuned to a mid range Am, this solid bore Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) driftwood branch flute has been well seasoned by the sea and sun, probably finding its way down the wild Smith River that flows through some of the last old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest, to its resting place on the beautiful northern California beach at Point St. George, where it was respectfully and gratefully gathered. Measuring 25" in length, with 4 tuning holes, this one of a kind flute has been finely sanded, exposing the golden color of its maple wood in contrast with the sunbleached gray from years of seasoning on the beach, and finely finished with shellac and a few coats of carnauba wax. The bird has been fitted with a cedar shoe and a drain hole has been designed into the air chamber to help prevent wet-out. Deer leather lacing secures the bird to her nest. A beautiful drawstring flute bag, custom made for this flute, has been lovingly crafted by Sabine.
