Clearly,
resonantly
and
soulfully voiced to an Em
(A=432) pentatonic scale, modes 1 & 4, this
Bristlecone Pine
(Pinus longaeva) branch flute sings with a mellow,
controllable warble on the fundamental (as heard in the
sound sample) ~
a warbling flute being highly valued by the old time,
traditional Native American flute players. As with
all Dryad Flutes, this ancient branch was bored out
unsplit, with the
natural
appearance, strength and integrity of the growth rings
left
intact and respected. The deep crevices that were in
the this
extremely weathered branch have been inlaid with turquoise
and the
finished flute has been kept free of any petroleum based
product,
sealed only with shellac, sanded and buffed to a natural
shine and
coated with carnauba wax. This gorgeous flute
measures
23 1/4" in
length, and has a slightly tapered sound chamber from 1"
diameter at
the sound
hole down to 7/8" at the foot of the flute.
Green
tanned deer
lacing lends its strength to secure the
bird to her nest. To help prevent wetout, the bird
has been
fitted with a cedar shoe, and a drain hole, covered by the
lacing, has
been designed into the air chamber.
