Tuned to a mid range
F#m,
this solid
bore
Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum)
driftwood branch flute
has been
seasoned by the sea and sun, probably finding its way down
the wild
Smith River that flows through some of the last old growth
forests of
the Pacific Northwest, to its resting place on the beautiful
northern
California beach at Point St. George, where
it
was respectfully and gratefully gathered. Measuring
23" in
length, with one 1/2" tunning hole, the sound chamber bore
has been
tapered from about 1" at the sound hole to 13/16" at
the
foot.
This amazing flute plays a few very high upper
register
notes, as
heard in the sound sample. Crushed abalone shell has
been
inlaid
into 12 of the
branch's
knots and into the crevice of the bird. The bird has
been
fitted
with a cedar shoe and a
drain hole has been designed into the air chamber to help
prevent wet-out. Deer leather lacing, with
abalone beads secures the bird to her nest. A
beautiful
flute pouch, custom designed for this flute, has been
lovingly
made by Sabine.
