![]() Magnolia Branch Flute in Am An ancient tree whose flower was one of the first to evolve on Earth, even before there were bees, provided the branch for this beautiful flute. Measuring 18½" in length, this solid bore Magnolia branch flute (Magnolia grandiflora) is voiced to a sweet and responsive, concert/recording quality, Am pentatonic scale, A=440, playing three upper register notes. The russet-colored bark has been sanded down in natural patterns to expose the various colors and textures of the branch, the cream colored wood finely finished to a warm glow. Crushed jade has been inlaid into several knots. Deer lacing with jade and brass beads secures the bird to her nest. To help prevent wet-out, the bird has been fitted with a cedar shoe and a drain hole, covered by the lacing, has been designed into the bottom of the air chamber. The branch for this Magnolia flute was gathered from the green trimmings left by city tree trimmers within the San Marcos Creek watershed of Southern California.
