Measuring 26" in length, with four tuning/direction holes, this unsplit Elderberry (Sambucus mexicana) branch flute is clearly and resonantly voiced to concert/recording quality low D minor pentatonic scale, playing 3 upper register tones. Much of the bark has been left on, shaped into natural patterns of contrast with the finely finished, cream-colored wood grain. To aid against wet-out, the bird has been fitted with a cedar heartwood shoe, for its absorption qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air chamber. Deer lacing, with wood and gold-plated brass beads secures the bird to its nest. The branch for this flute was sustainably gathered from the Escondido Creek watershed of Southern California.
