Measuring
20
3/4"
in
length, with three tuning holes, this
concert/recording quality Coast
Redwood (Sequoia
sempervirens )
branch
flute
is clearly and resonantly voiced to a G# minor
pentatonic scale, playing 3 upper octave notes.
As with all Dryad
Flutes, the branch has been bored out unsplit, with no
glue line to
ever fail or detract from the natural character and
strength of the
branch. Some of the dark red bark has
been left on contrasting beautifully with the finely
finished
sapwood of the branch. A few knots have been
inlaid with
crushed turquoise. Deer
lacing
with turquoise and and
gold plated brass
beads holds
the
bird to the nest. To aid against wet-out, the
bird
has been fitted with a cedar shoe, for its absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the
air
chamber. The Coast Redwood branch for this flute
was brought back
from the Big Sur area of California where is was found
newly fallen
from the tree.
