19 5/8"
in
length with four direction holes, this
unsplit Walnut
(Juglans californica)
branch
flute has been clearly and expressively voiced to a 6
hole, high B minor Modes 1&4 pentatonic scale, playing three upper
register notes.
Much of the walnut wood grain has been exposed and
finely finished, contrasting nicely with the dark patches of bark
inclusion. All knot
holes and end checks have been inlaid with
crushed Lapis Lazuli. To
help prevent wet-out the bird
has been fitted with a redwood shoe, for its absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air
chamber. Deer leather lacing with Lapis Lazuli and Brass beads
secures the bird to its nest. The branch
for this flute was sustainably gathered, with prayer
and
gratitude, along the San Marcos
Creek watershed of California.
