of the bark has been left on this Poplar
unsplit forked branch harmony drone, sanded down at the tone holes to
expose the finely finished wood grain.
SOLDMeasuring 17 1/2" in length, it is sweetly and clearly voiced to a Mode 1&4 Dm pentatonic scale. The left drone side includes three tone holes with cork plugs, giving the player more choices in harmonizing one side with the other. A few knot holes and wood fissures have been inlaid with crushed Malachite, the drone corks topped with Malachite beads, and deer leather lacing with Malachite and brass beads holds the birds to their nests. To help prevent wet-out, both birds have been fitted with redwood shoes, and a drain hole, covered by the lacing, has been drilled into the bottom of each air chamber. The forked branch for this flute was gathered, with prayer and gratitude, from a downed Poplar branch that fell from a tree still growing in the San Marcos Creek watershed of Southern California.
