22 1/4"
in
length with four direction holes and a 15/16" diameter sound chamber,
this
unsplit California Walnut branch
flute has been clearly and soulfully voiced to a 6-hole, mode 1/4 F#
minor pentatonic scale, playing three upper register tones. Much of the beautiful walnut wood grain has been exposed and finely finished, contrasting nicely with the dark patches of bark inclusion. All knot checks and bark fissures have been inlaid with crushed Serpentine stone. To help prevent wet-out, the bird has been fitted with a redwood shoe, for its absorption qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air chamber. Deer leather lacing with Serpentine and Brass beads holds the bird to the nest, also covering the drain hole. The branch for this flute was gathered sustainably, with prayer and gratitude, along the San Marcos Creek watershed in San Diego County, California.
