Measuring 15 1/2" in length, the beautifully patterned underlayer of
bark has been exposed and sanded smooth on this unsplitt
Ponderosa
Pine (Pinus ponderosa)
branch flute. Accurately tuned to a
sweet and spirited E minor pentatonic scale, it plays three upper
octave tones and a controllable warble on the fundamental--very rare on
a high pitched flute like this! All knot holes and a couple
small checks
in the foot of the flute have been inlaid with crushed
malachite. To aid against wet-out (the build-up of
breath condensation that can clog the windway of the flute) the bird
has been fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe, for its absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air
chamber. Deer
lacing
with malachite and brass
beads holds
the
bird to the nest.
