27 1/2"
in
length with four direction holes and a 1" diameter sound chamber, this
unsplit California Walnut
(Juglans californica)
branch
flute has been accurately tuned, clearly and soulfully voiced to a 6
holed minor
pentatonic low D scale, playing an extended range of 6 upper
octave notes, with a controllable warble on the fundamental--as heard
in the sound sample.
Much of the beautiful walnut wood grain has been exposed and
finely finished, contrasting nicely with the patches of bark
inclusion. All knot holes have been inlaid with
crushed
turquoise. To
help prevent wet-out (the
build-up of
breath condensation that can clog the windway of the flute) the bird
has been fitted with a redwood shoe, for its absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air
chamber, covered by the deer lacing that holds the bird to the
nest. The branch
for this flute was gathered sustainably, with prayer
and
gratitude, along the San Marcos
Creek watershed in San Diego County, California.
