Measuring 16
1/4" in length, this unsplit Paper Birch branch flute,
Betula
papyrifera, has
been clearly and accurately tuned with a sweet voice to a 6 holed B
minor
pentatonic scale, playing three upper octave notes. Much of
its characteristic bark has
been left on, well sealed to insure continued adherence, sanded down at
the tones holes to thin the wall in that area exposing the finely
finished wood grain. To
aid against
wet-out, the bird
has been fitted with a redwood shoe, for its absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air
chamber. Knot holes have been inlaid with
crushed turquoise stone. Deer lacing with Sleeping Beauty
turquoise and brass
beads secures the bird to its nest.
