Measuring 25 3/4" in length, with a 1" diameter sound chamber and four direction holes, this unsplit California Walnut (Juglans  californica) branch flute has been accurately tuned, clearly and soulfully voiced to a 6 holed minor pentatonic mid E scale, playing 2 second octave notes.  A controllable warble can be played on the fundamental note, as heard at the end of the sound sample.  The bark has been left on, well sealed to prevent separation from the wood and the numerous bark fissures have been inlaid with crushed malachite stone.  To help prevent wet-out (the build-up of breath condensation that can clog the windway of the flute) the bird has been fitted with a redwood shoe, for its absorption qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air chamber.  Deer leather lacing with malachite and brass beads holds the bird to the nest.  The branch for this flute was sustainably gathered, with prayer and gratitude, along the San Marcos Creek watershed in San Diego County, California.
