Measuring 18 5/8" in length with 4 direction holes, this unsplit Magnolia branch flute is Verdi tuned to a bright, soothing Bm pentatonic scale, modes 1&4, playing two upper register notes. The russet-colored bark has been sanded down in different areas to expose the various colors and textures of the branch. A few bark fissures and knot holes have been inlaid with crushed malachite. Deer lacing with malachite and brass beads holds the bird to the nest. To help prevent wet-out, the bird has been fitted with a redwood shoe, and a drain hole, covered by the lacing, has been designed into the bottom of the air chamber. The branch for this flute was gathered sustainably, with prayer, respect and gratitude, from a Magnolia tree that grows within the San Marcos Creek watershed of California.
