Measuring
22 51/2"
in
length, this unsplit Coast
Redwood (Sequoia
sempervirens ) branch
flute
is voiced with a clear and soulful sound to a concert
tuned G minor
pentatonic scale, playing 4 upper octave notes and a
controllable warble on the fundamental. Some of
the
characteristic red
bark has been left on, contrasting beautifully
with the exposed and finely finished wood
grain. All knot holes and surface checks have been
inlaid with
crushed malachite, a stone associated with the heart
chakra.
To aid against wet-out the bird
has been fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe, for its
absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the
air
chamber. Deer
lacing
with red horn bone and malachite beads holds
the
bird to the nest, while covering the drain hole.
