Measuring
20 5/8"
in
length, with four tuning holes, this unsplit Coast
Redwood (Sequoia
sempervirens ) branch
flute
is
sweetly and accurately tuned to a G minor
pentatonic scale, playing 3 upper octave notes.
Much of the
characteristic red
bark has been left on, contrasting beautifully
with the exposed and finely finished wood
grain. All knot holes have been inlaid with
crushed turquoise. To aid against wet-out
the bird
has been fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe, for its
absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the
air
chamber. Deer
lacing
with turquoise and red horn bone
beads holds
the
bird to the nest, while covering the drain hole.
