Some
of
the
bark has been left on this 6 holed
unsplit Olive branch
flute, (Olea
europaea), providing a
tactile and visual
contrast to the beautifully finished wood
grain. Measuring
20 7/8" in length, this warbling
flute
is tuned to an F#
minor
pentatonic, modes 1 & 4, playing three upper
octave notes. Knot holes have been
inlaid with crushed jade
and a jade cabochon
has been set into the bird. Elk
lacing
with jade and brass beads
holds
the
bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood
shoe to aid against
wetout. The
branch for this flute was pruned from an olive tree
that grows at the Nottingham
Center
for
the
Arts in San Marcos, CA,
where this branch flute was crafted.
