This
unsplit Camellia
branch
flute, which grew at the
beautiful Descanso
Gardens,
has a wonderful, silky smooth finish to it and a
sweet, stable clear
voice to match. Some of the underlayer bark has
been left on to
contrast nicely with the exposed wood grain. Measuring
15" in
length, it is
accurately tuned to a high D minor pentatonic scale,
modes 1 & 4,
playing three upper octave notes as well as the Gypsy
Scale. All
knots have been inlaid with crushed malachite.
Elk
lacing, with brass and malachite beads holds the bird
to the
nest, the bird fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe to
aid
against wet-out.
