Measuring 23 1/4" in length and tuned to a sweet, low D# minor pentatonic, modes 1 & 4, this unsplit Ash (Fraxinus uhdei) branch flute also plays the Gypsy scale as well as 3 upper octave notes.  The whole flute has been finely finished, all sanding scratches invisible to the eye.  Some of the bark has been left on the mouth end of the flute, with the knot inlaid with serpentine, the bark gradually sanded away toward the foot of the flute, in patterns that contrast nicely with the exposed wood grain.  Elk lacing with serpentine and brass beads, holds the bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood shoe to aid against wet-out.  The branch for this flute was gathered at the beautiful Descanso Gardens.
