Measuring
16" in length, the wonderful red bark has been left on,
though sanded
down smooth, on this Coast Redwood (Sequoia
sempervirens ) 6
holed, unsplit
branch flute tuned to the key of B minor, modes 1 & 4
pentatonic. Knot crevices or checks in
the flute body
and bird have been inlaid with Sleeping
Beauty
Turquoise. Elk lacing
with Sleeping Beauty Turquoise and
horn bone
beads
holds
the
bird to the nest. The bird has been fitted with a
redwood
heartwood shoe, to aid against
wetout. The
branch for this flute was gathered at Descanso
Gardens in La
Canada Flintridge, California.
