Some
of
the surface and underlayer bark has been left on this
gracefully curved unsplit Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens)
branch flute creating a visual and tactile contrast with the
finely finished wood grain. Measuring 16 1/2" in length and
concert tuned to a mid-range Bbm, it plays the minor
pentatonic modes 1 & 4 as well as the Gypsy Scale.
This flute also has a nice, controllable warble on the fundamental, as heard in
the sound sample. Deer lacing with horn bone and brass
beads holds the bird to the nest.
