Autmun of 1993 Bill Neal, Gary Lemos and Jon Sherman (monitoring the recording) performing under the oaks at Descanso Gardens, in La Canada Flintridge, CA, through Jon's solar powered sound system (not pictured). The muisic from this recording was used in the audio cassette "Songs From Turtle Island", with liner notes stating: This recording was made live under the oak trees at the Descanso Botanical Gardens in La Canada, California, using the power of the sun. It is one of the very first solar-powered recordings available anywhere, and the first (as far as we know) Native recording using this process. The album is dedicated to our woman elders who have carried the healing spirit and knowlege down through the generations - to the grandmothers and great grandmothers who spread their wings over all of them, who remember the Original Instructions. |
