Some
of
the
bark
has
been
left
on this 6 holed unsplit Olive branch
flute, (Olea
europaea), contrasting
nicely with the finely finished wood grain. Measuring
22 1/8" in length, with a 7/8" diameter sound
chamber and four tuning/direction holes, this branch flute is
clearly
and accurately tuned to an F# minor pentatonic scale, modes 1 &
4, playing three upper octave notes. Knot
holes have been inlaid with crushed serpentine.
Elk lacing with serpentine and brass beads holds
the bird to the nest. To aid against wetout, the bird has
been fitted with a redwood shoe, for it's absorption qualities, and a
drain hole has been designed into
the air chamber, covered over by the lacing. The
branch for this flute was gathered sustainably, with respect and
gratitude, from an abandoned olive grove that grows along San Marcos
Creek, in San Marcos, CA.
