"Tamlyn" - Carmen's name for this F# Elderberry Branch Flute * 8-6-2011 Jon, Just a note to say Hi. Hoping your summer has been prosperous and trouble free. I just wanted to tell you that Tamlyn and I are going to be performing a wedding and when I practiced a tune for the celebration ,the sound was more than beautiful. Several of my fiends have said the sound is beautifully "haunting" I agree. I have a Native American friend who also makes flutes and he was very impressed that I chose Elderberry , as he said it is a very sacred wood to have a flute made of it. I am the proud owner of 48 beautiful flutes and I must say that when I play "T" It feels a bit more connected, I am not aware so much of my lack of ability but of how hypnotic the sound makes me feel. You must have put something extra when you found this branch? Take care, have a good year. Carmen* The picture is of Cape Elizabeth where Tamlyn sang to the sea... * 8-13-2011 Jon, Today under blue skies , about 25 people from my flute circle, gathered at Red Top Mt. State Park for our monthly outing. My friend and flute maker Dana Ross of Falcon flutes baptized My branch flute playing a wonderful song. The whole group was mesmerized and the flute makers in our group about three of them sang your praises on your precise eye to detail and ability in the making of your flutes. Dana being Chickasaw, gave the history of the sacredness of Elderberry wood and then gave Tamlyn a blessing. It was a fab day...Have a great year I will drop a line every so often. Friendship and white light, Carmen*
The
bark has been left on this elegent 6 holed unsplit Elderberry branch
flute, well sealed from biodegration to insure that it will never
separate during the life of the flute. Measuring 23 7/8" in
length, it is voiced with a clear and soulful sound, and accurately
tuned to a mid range F# minor
pentatonic scale, playing
3
upper
octave
notes.
To aid against
wet-out (the
build-up of
breath condensation that can clog the windway of the flute) the bird
has been fitted with a redwood shoe, for its absorption
qualities, and a drain hole has been designed into the air
chamber. Deer lacing holds
the
bird to the nest.
