Some of the beautiful underlayer bark and a touch of
the rougher outer bark has been
left on
this unsplit Ponderosa
Pine (Pinus ponderosa) branch flute,
creating a nice contrast with the finely
finished, exposed wood grain. Measuring 17 3/4" in length, it is
accurately tuned to a
sweet and stable A minor pentatonic scale, modes 1 & 4,
playing three upper octave notes as well as the Gypsy Scale. All
knots have been inlaid, at their center, with crushed turquoise.
Elk
lacing, with horn bone and turquoise
beads
holds the bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe to aid against wet-out.
