Some of
the
bark has been left on this 6 holed unsplit Elderberry branch flute, at
the mouth and foot ends, in contrast with the finely finished wood
grain in the middle. Measuring 12 7/8"
in length, it is tuned to a high E minor
pentatonic scale, modes 1 & 4
and is able to get 3 upper octave notes. A few small touches of malachite inlay have been added to fill the knot holes. Elk lacing with horn bone and brass beads holds the bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood heartwood shoe to aid against wet-out. The branch was gathered sustainably, with care, respect and love at the beautiful Descanso Gardens.
