Ash Branch Flute in G#

This branch flute was adopted by Tenzin Kalden who entices
a wonderful song out of "Gandolf" (his name for this flute)

in Rawini Cave, near where he lives in Golden Bay, New Zealand.

Another fine performance from Tenzin on "Gandolf"
in Milnthorpe Park in Golden Bay, New Zealand.

Measuring 19 1/2" in length and concert tuned to an G# minor pentatonic, modes 1 & 4, this unsplit Ash (Fraxinus uhdei) branch flute also plays the Gypsy scale (as heard in the last section of the sound sample) as well as 3 upper octave notes.  The whole flute has been finely finished, all sanding scratches invisible to the eye.  Most of the bark has been removed to expose the beautiful wood grain, though a bit of bark, sanded smooth, has been left on the bird and at the north end of the flute.  Elk lacing holds the bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood shoe to aid against wet-out.
The branch for this flute was gathered at Descanso Gardens.
