Measuring
21 1/2" in length, some of the bark has been left on this 6 holed
unsplit Olive branch flute, (Olea
europaea), adding even more color and
contrast to the highly figured and beautiful wood
grain. Tuned to an F# minor
pentatonic scale, modes 1 & 4, it also plays the Gypsy scale and
three upper octave notes. Bark crevices and knot or
surface checks have been
inlaid with crushed serpentine.
Elk lacing
with serpentine and brass beads
holds
the
bird to the nest, the bird fitted with a redwood shoe to aid against
wetout. The
branch for this flute was pruned from trees at the Nottingham Center
for the Arts in San Marcos, CA. As the olive branch is a symbol
of peace in Western cultures, may this olive branch
flute inspire peace and harmony in the player and listener.
